MEET JAMIE

He Loves Hendersonville

In 1973 Jamie’s parents brought him and his three sisters to Hendersonville. He grew up riding his bike all over the city, playing soccer at Drakes Creek Park, and serving ice cream at Baskin-Robbins. After graduating from Hendersonville High School and Western Kentucky University he came back to Hendersonville, where he is raising his two children, Zachary and Amelia. Now, Clary family gatherings include more than 20 people.

Jamie loves his hometown so much that he literally wrote the book about it—“The City by the Lake Volume II: A History of Hendersonville from 1968 to 1988.”

Jamie grew up at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Hendersonville and also attends Hendersonville First United Methodist Church.

Prior to being elected mayor, Jamie worked in government and in the private sector. He was a city alderman and planning commissioner in Hendersonville and also served on staff for a state representative and a congressman. Just prior to becoming mayor, Jamie was a consultant for businesses needing to expand. His clients offered jobs, tax revenue, and infrastructure, but they often needed help navigating through red tape. He worked in 29 states and three countries, providing assistance to help those businesses overcome hurdles placed by government agencies.

His dad, Guy Clary, was a volunteer for the VFW and a long-time employee at Oscar Meyer. His mom, Joyce Clary, is heavily involved at St. Timothy Lutheran Church and Hendersonville First United Methodist Church. His three sisters all live nearby. Teresa Gravelle owns and operates the Baskin-Robbins stores in Hendersonville and Madison. Patty works in White House. And, Renee McKinney teaches dance at American Academy of Dance.

Since 2016 Jamie has been the city's mayor, focusing on improvements to the city's image, infrastructure and job opportunities. Monthly he sends updates via newsletter by email. To receive the newsletter click here
